There are particular life skills that an individual should have, like tying your shoe, knowing how to cook at least one meal from scratch, and being able to open a bottle of wine—even if you don't have a corkscrew on you. Like just about anything else, TikTok has the answer for the latter, so if you've ever been hit with the dilemma of needing to open a bottle of wine with no corkscrew in sight, here's everything you need to know.
TikTok user @jamiegriffwine shares a bunch of tips and tricks about choosing wine at the store, understanding the cost of wine, learning about different wine regions, and more on his page. He shared a few videos about opening up a bottle of wine when you don't have a corkscrew on hand, but said that his shoe method is one of the most helpful.
"I really like this way because it's truly [for when] you're in the middle of no where, you have no tools, nothing except the shoe on your foot and the bottle of wine," he said in the beginning of the video. All it takes is a few simple steps to uncork your bottle and you'll want to start by taking the foil off of the wine's cork...and by taking your shoe off.
From there, stick the bottle of wine in your shoe and find a solid wall, tree, or other strong surface to strike the shoe on. Steadily hit the shoe (with the bottle of wine inside!) on the surface and the cork will slowly begin to come out of the bottle. Keep hitting the shoe until the cork falls out entirely, and then you're all set!
I would say the final step is pouring your wine into a glass to enjoy, but if you're in a situation in the middle of nowhere with nothing besides your shoes and some wine...chances are you won't have any glasses on you. In that case, might as well drink straight from the bottle!
