Movie magic helps make food look insanely appetizing. And in the case of Harry Potter, everything they eat looks both delicious and magical. Butterbeer is one of the staples of the Harry Potter franchise, and while it's been available at theme parks for purchase for a while, it just got a vegan makeover so plant-based Potterheads can enjoy it.

Butterbeer is a butterscotch-flavored beverage that is available at Harry Potter attractions like the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando. Bottled vegan butterbeer is now available to order through the Platform 9¾ Shop website for the first time and will be wrapped in a number of collectible labels that look authentic to the movies. The catch is that right now the Platform 9 ¾ Shop is only able to ship to the UK.

In the United States there has also been a push to make the butterbeer drinks at Universal Studios vegan friendly. Veg News reported that due to a licensing agreement between the theme park and Warner Bros. there is a dairy-based whipped topping that must be on every drink.

Still, a Harry Potter fan group called The Protego Foundation, named after the protection spell from the series, has been pushing for a vegan alternative to the popular drink. A petition for vegan butterbeer has over 7,000 signatures, and Evanna Lynch who played Luna Lovegood in the series has spoken out about her supportive stance on veganism. All things considered it seems there may be a chance that butterbeer will become vegan stateside, so get ready to host your own plant-based Great Feast soon. Ten points to Gryffindor!
