In case you missed it, we, the Martha Stewart stans of the internet, collectively lost our dang minds this week when our queen posted a selfie from her pool, which some commenters classified as a "thirst trap." Now, comedian Chelsea Handler posted a photo emulating Martha's original snap and Martha's response has somehow made this situation EVEN better.
Chelsea posted a photo similarly posed in her own pool with the caption: "I’m here to take @marthastewart48’s swimming lesson. If I look this good at 78 I better still have a pool to show myself off in." She followed it up with Martha's photo in an Instagram carousel, just in case anyone missed which reference she was making.
People, of course, lost it because not only do these two kind of look alike, but also because everyone knows that if you call for Martha on Instagram or otherwise, she will likely respond and her response will be HONEST. Well, Martha did not disappoint, commenting the following on Chelsea's photos.
"Dear Chelsea, I'm so happy that you liked my post well enough to emulate it. I do think my pool is a little bit prettier than yours and that my facial expression is a little bit more relaxed. Nevertheless you are a beautiful girl and FUCKING too young to be emulating me. Continue with your comedy, your humor, and your amazing ability to gather around your political liberals. We need it! Love Martha."
There is so much to unpack here: For one, if it was not clear how proud Martha is of her pool, it is now CRYSTAL CLEAR. Much like Martha's pool is! Next, if Martha Stewart ever called me a beautiful girl I would perish from this earthly plane so I am sure Chelsea is ticked pink by the whole thing, minor jabs aside. And finally, Martha Stewart swears. In CAPS! Wow. What a day!
