Universal Orlando has updated its mask guidelines to clarify when parkgoers can remove their masks in regards to drinking and eating.
The park is clarifying in its COVID-19 safety guidelines that "guests must wear face coverings at all times, unless they are actively eating or drinking, and they must also be socially distanced from other travel parties while consuming their food or beverage. Inside restaurants, we have arranged tables and seating so that guests can safely remove their face coverings while enjoying their dining experience."
The rules appear to have been updated earlier this week, as they previously simply read "We have arranged tables and seating so that guests can remove their face coverings while they eat. But we ask that they wear them at all other times" in that particular section.
This update comes just after Disney issued similar updated guidance to its parkgoers, which advised them to stay stationary and socially distant from others while their masks are removed for eating and drinking purposes. Both Disney and Universal Orlando require parkgoers to wear masks and undergo other precautions like temperature checks to enter their parks.
In addition to the clarification about eating, Universal also updated its guidance on which type of masks are considered "appropriate" for visiting the park, saying that it must cover your nose and mouth and be secured under your chin, fit snugly against the sides of your face and be secured with ear loops or secured around your head, and must be at least two-ply (consist of at least two layers).
They also deem the following not acceptable as proper face coverings:
- Face coverings with exhalation valves
- Face coverings that include mesh material or holes of any kind
- Costume masks or veils, per costume guidelines
