Disney has updated its mask policy to clarify that park-goers should remain in one place and six feet apart from other guests if they remove their masks to eat.

According to Disney's official mask rules, "Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming. You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you should be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing."

Many outlets are reporting that this is an update to Disney's previous policy, which they say did not include language about walking around and eating with food. Reports on their policies prior to this weekend support this. Reporters from Walt Disney World News Today said cast members at Epcot told them “guests are now being asked to find a safe spot six feet from other guests before removing their masks to eat and drink.”

Disney Food Blog also posted photos showing signs around Disney World informing guests of this policy.

Guests who visit Disney can also remove masks in designated "mask relaxation zones" designed to allow them to cool off while also maintaining physical distancing from other parties.

Disney World reopened its doors to the public last week, first opening its Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom parks followed by Epcot and Hollywood Studios a few days later. The parks have implemented a number of new policies including reduced capacity, temperature checks for guests and employees, and social distancing barriers.

Like most places, Disney is adjusting its operations based on updated health guidelines, as well as likely on guest experiences as more people visit the park. Make sure you're following all posted signage if you do visit the park and you can find Disney's most up-to-date guidance here and our guide to park re-openings here.
