TikTok is great for many things, like staring for hours at videos of cute animals, teaching us we know nothing about our favorite snacks, and apparently even helping us save money when we go out to eat. Recently, a TikTok from a McDonald's insider blew our minds so much that we had to share.
Tiktok user @tha_broski recently posted a video breaking down the different menu prices for different sizes of chicken nuggets at McDonald's. In his video, he claimed that it was actually cheaper to order two six-piece nuggets ($2 each at his particular McDonald's) than it was to order one 10 piece ($5.79).
The bad news here is—at least at the McDonald's locations near me and the few other ones I checked online—these prices were not the same and it was, in fact, not cheaper to use the hack from TikTok. That said, that's not to say it isn't true at any location because prices seem to vary wildly from place to place, so check your local store for yourself.
PLUS it did show me another hack (literally I was that meme of the lady with the equations around her head all day today): In more than half the McDonald's locations I checked, it was actually cheaper to get three four-piece McNuggets ($1.30 each at one location) than it was to get a ten-piece ($4.50 at that same location). For those who are bad at math, that would be 12 nuggets versus 10 for 60 cents cheaper. Again, across stores where it was cheaper to order multiple four-pieces, prices differed, and it didn't work at every location I looked up, so do the math for yourself before ordering! As long as you don't mind some extra packaging, you might just save about 50 cents or so AND get two more nuggets.
In the same TikTok, @tha_broski also claimed that a small fry container actually fit the same amount of fries compared to a medium, showing this by pouring them from the small bag into the medium container. While the topic of how full individual fries containers get has been highly debated for some time, some people in the comments of the TikTok took issue with this proposed hack, saying that their small fries aren't usually as filled as the one in the video are and that usually they have to be filled to a specific weight. To that, @tha_broski suggested they simply ask for more fries if they aren't getting as many fries as he showed.
That said, the calorie count for a medium fry versus a small fry on McDonalds' website differs by 100 calories, seeming to imply you should get a bit more in a medium. Seems like another one that is worth trying on your own! Either way, we always love a good hack, so keep them coming!
