As delicious as avocados are, saving them after they've been cut can be a real pain. Like most kitchen dilemmas, TikTok has the answer for how to keep an avocado green even after it's been cut, and all it takes is a container and some water.
TikTok user @kmag1 posted a video on the app that now has over 79,000 likes and counting. She started it off with an admission that her video wouldn't be what is typically seen on the platform.
"This will be my greatest contribution to TikTok, so are you ready? It's not a dance, it's not a perfect lip sync, it's not the words popping up that took forever," she said before telling her followers that she'd be showing how to save half of an avocado.
She showed a half-cut avocado with the pit still inside, and all she did was put it in a resealable container with water before putting it in the fridge. There has to be enough water in it to cover the open side and touch the avocado's skin, but that's literally it. No pesky cling wrap, no random gadgets from the grocery store—just water!
For those who were doubtful, a follow-up video was posted a day later to show the results and let me just say, the avocado still looks divine! Sure, the surface of it is a bit water logged (duh, it just sat in water for an extended period of time) but all it takes is a quick pat down on a paper towel to get that taken care of.
After that, the avocado is still green and ripe and ready to be used for guac, avocado toast, or avocado fries. Truly, it's that simple. Now, you'll never have to worry about eating an entire avocado in one sitting so it doesn't go brown. But then again, you do you.
