DIY food kits have been a saving grace these past few months with at-home sets from Auntie Anne's pretzels to Baskin Robbins sundaes and so much more. Now Heinz is getting in on the food kit moment with something a little more unexpected: sauces that you can turn into sorbet.
If you can't quite wrap your head around this concept, no worries, because it's truly like nothing you've ever seen before. These kits come with one of Heinz's famous sauces and everything you need to turn that sauce into a sweet sorbet. Of course there's a ketchup option, but there are also kits available in mayo, barbecue, saucy sauce, and salad cream flavors.
Along with the sauce, each box comes with a recipe card, a reusable ice cream tub, a gold spoon, and a gold ice cream scoop. The boxes come with all of the equipment, but you'll need to add your own ingredients to complete the recipe. The ketchup one, for example, calls for milk and cream.
Each kit goes for £15 on the Heinz site (about $17), and it looks like the Heinz Creamz kits are only available in the United Kingdom at this time, but you can look at the recipes online if you want to try them out. The year 2020 can't get much weirder, though, so I wouldn't be shocked if the kits soon had a wider roll-out for more people to enjoy.
The ketchup box is already sold out, and one HuffPost writer said the thought of eating frozen ketchup is enough to turn someone off from eating the whole tub...although it may be worth trying the ketchup sorbet in some sort of Bloody Mary drink? I guess?
Welp, that's your strange food fact of the day. You can totally make ketchup into sorbet. Do with this info what you will!
