Update, July 6, 2020: Although the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on the Fourth of July looked different this year, Joey Chestnut still delivered. Even without a large crowd cheering him on, the competitive eater won the contest this year, earning his thirteenth title.

Leading up to the competition, Joey said that the event taking place inside with air conditioning might help him break a record. He was looking to beat his record of 74 hot dogs in ten minutes, and won with a new record of 75. All the mazels, Joey. All the mazels.

Original Post, June 24, 2020: Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is arguably one of the most American traditions out there. Every year on the Fourth of July, competitive eaters stuff their faces in front of a crowd in Coney Island, but like most things this summer, the event is going to look a little different than last year's.

Instead of the typical hustle and bustle of the contest, it will be taking place indoors and without an audience. Although it's different than the norm, 12-time Nathan's champion Joey Chestnut thinks these adjustments might make the competition a bit easier.

"There's a little bit of a bonus 'cause we're gonna be eating in air conditioning and there are less eaters, so they're making less hot dogs so they might taste better," Joey told TMZ: "There's a good chance that we might have better conditions for a world record and I'ma be pushing for it."

Without the heat and the pressure of fans gathering around to watch, Joey thinks he might have a chance at beating his previous record and once again taking home the title this year. His current record is 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes, which he completed in 2018. This July 4, he's pushing to beat that.

"This is gonna be a weird 4th of July, but I'ma make it memorable. My record 74, 75 just sounds like a good number but we'll see," Joey said to in his TMZ interview. "If I'm feeling it, if I'm in the perfect rhythm, 77 is doable."

That may seem like a steep goal to meet but let's be real...in the year 2020, anything is possible.
