Just two days after Disney's Chief Medical Officer laid out her thoughts surrounding re-opening all of Disney's parks and resorts, Disney Springs' Vice President Matt Simon confirmed his property will begin a "phased re-opening" on May 20 in a post on the Disney Parks Blog.
"Following the guidance of government and health officials, a limited number of shopping and dining experiences that are owned by third-party operating participants will begin to open during this initial phase," he explained: "The rest of Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed, including theme parks and resort hotels."
Though he did not get into specifics, he noted Disney Springs will look and feel a bit different when it does begin to welcome guests again later this month. The process of re-opening with include "enhanced safety measures, including increased cleaning procedures, the use of appropriate face coverings by both cast members and guests, limited-contact guest services and additional safety training for cast members."
Finally, he noted many of these practices may change closer to or after May 20 as the "unprecedented" nature of this situation will require patience on everyone's part. At the very minimum, guests can expect limitations on the amount of people allowed into Disney Springs at any time, as well as reduced parking options and operating hours.
Earlier this week, Disney also confirmed their Shanghai park would resume operations "with controlled capacity" early next week.
