Stanley Tucci making a Negroni earlier this week went totally viral. It's unsurprising: The man's voice is smooth as butter and he has the mixology skills to match. In light of his Negroni tutorial that had him trending all over the internet, he joined James Corden for a remote segment of The Late Late Show, and the two made martinis together.
James sat in his remote show set and Stanley stood in front of the same at-home bar where he made his Negroni. James said he has never had a martini before, so he wanted the honor of drinking his first one to be from the internet's new mixology master. Of course, Stanley obliged and gave James step-by-step instructions for how to make the classy drink.
Martinis are pretty simple to make and only require ice, vodka, vermouth, and lemon rind for an extra flare. The two had their ingredients on deck and ready.
"We're not gonna shake it. We're actually gonna stir it, the opposite of what James Bond likes," he said before placing ice into his shaker. James did the same.
"The vermouth, you can measure it or you can not measure it. Whatever you like," Stanley explained. He put about a half shot of vermouth in with the ice and stirred it together, letting it infuse the ice with flavor for a bit. Normally he'd let it infuse a bit longer, but for the sake of television Stanley sped up the process a bit.
Once the ice was infused, he strained the vermouth out and added in about two shots of vodka, stirring the new ingredients together. Then, he strained that through the shaker into his martini glass and rubbed a lemon rind on the rim for extra flavor. Stanley Tucci's a classy man, thank you very much.
The two toasted and James was delighted with his first martini experience. "Oh it's glorious!" he said. And I can only imagine that's an understatement for the feeling of drinking a cocktail with Stanley Tucci even if from a distance.
James ended the segment by saying something that is truer than ever now. "Stanley Tucci...keeping the world together one drink at a time." It's true! Hey, Stan, if you're reading this...wanna join my Zoom happy hour tonight? LMK.
