The news around the COVID-19 outbreak is constantly changing, but information about food safety and how to keep yourself healthy is crucial right now. Here is a comprehensive list on the foods you should be stocking up on during this period of social distancing, as well as information about your local grocery stores’ changing hours, an explanation of “no-contact delivery,” and a guide on how to help your community and its businesses throughout closures.
Chef José Andrés has been stepping up in some pretty major ways amid the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition to providing meals to passengers and crew quarantined on cruise ships and donating food to Washington D.C. firefighters through his non-profit World Central Kitchen, he's also pledged to give nurses and doctors free meals for the remainder of the year.
José's restaurants are currently closed and he has turned those in New York City and the Washington D.C. area into community kitchens, according to Food & Wine. He pledged in a tweet that once they reopen, they would serve "active doctors and nurses" free for the rest of 2020.
In the meantime, World Central Kitchen is also delivering food from local restaurants to healthcare workers via partnerships with organizations like Help Feed the Frontline and sending packages of food to seniors who cannot safely grocery shop for themselves. He also has World Central Kitchens around the U.S. that are feeding healthcare workers, laid-off hospitality workers, and others who need it.

José isn't the only one pledging to give back to healthcare professionals in the midst of the outbreak. Many restaurants are offering free food and drinks to hospital workers and other staff and you can find a full list of those deals here. In addition, organizations like Pizza Vs. Pandemic are partnering with local restaurants to deliver food to healthcare workers across the country.
