Wendy's launched its breakfast menu back in 2020, and it's expanded in the past few years. This past August, the fast food restaurant introduced its English Muffin Sandwiches (watch out, McDonald's). Over the years, we've put Wendy's breakfast menu to the test. Here are some of the highlights.
Breakfast Sandwiches
First off, there are a lot of breakfast sandwiches, and they vary by topping and bun. There's a biscuit, croissant, a regular bun for the Breakfast Baconator, and the newly released English muffin.
Breakfast Baconator
When the Delish team tried the sausage, bacon, egg, and cheese-loaded sandwich back in 2020, they were big fans. But when we put it to the test this year, it fell flat.
English Muffin Sandwiches
There are two new English muffin sandwiches—a Sausage, Egg & Cheese and Bacon, Egg & Cheese. We tried the sausage version and thought the patty was decent. It's a solid sandwich, despite the cheese not being fully melted. In a pinch, it'll get the job done.
Biscuit Sandwiches
The primary biscuit sandwiches at Wendy's are: Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit; Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit; Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit; Sausage Biscuit. You can also order a biscuit with honey butter or sausage gravy. When it was first released, former Delish News Editor Kristin Salaky wrote that the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit was incredible. "Could feel it clogging all my arteries? Yes, but I loved it," she wrote.
Croissant
And if buns, English muffins, and biscuits aren't your thing, you can opt for a croissant sandwich. Get it filled with Maple Bacon Chicken, Sausage, Egg & Swiss, or Bacon, Egg & Swiss. Their croissant isn't like the traditional light and flaky version; it's breadier. "The flaky bread almost tasted like brioche, it was so pillowy and soft," wrote Salaky. We didn't mind the Maple Bacon Chicken Croissant, but thought it would be better with a bit of spice.
French Toast Sticks, Potatoes, & More
In addition to all of the sandwiches, you'll also find plenty of sides like Seasoned Potatoes, Homestyle French Toast Sticks, Apple Bites, and an Oatmeal Bar that tastes just like a cookie. Similar to potato wedges, the breakfast potatoes are cut with their skin intact. They're seasoned with cracked black pepper and garlic powder and were a great alternative to hash browns. The French toast sticks were "artificially eggy," according to Editorial Assistant Gabby Romero, who also noted that the syrup tasted like "pure corn syrup."
Coffee
As for caffeine, choose from hot coffee, cold brew, or a Frosty Cream Cold Brew in one of three flavors. We tried the Chocolate Frosty Cream Cold Brew. Despite thinking it was a mix of actual Frosty and cold brew, it was really just cold brew mixed with creamer made from the Frosty, and a flavored syrup. It had a subtle coffee flavor and a hint of Frosty.
