Are any of us truly over the sheer excitement of the return of the McDonald's Shamrock Shake? Or the ADDED thrill of the addition of the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry. Well prepare to freak out even more because we have another Shamrock development to share.
In case you haven't heard, it's the 50th anniversary of the Shamrock Shake, which we all know is the golden anniversary (right?). That's why McDonald's is celebrating in style with something called the Golden Shamrock Shake. It's a hand-crafted cup made with 18K gold and speckled with 50 green emeralds and white diamonds. It also includes 50 yellow diamonds in each of the Golden Arches. Yeah this isn't your typical fast-food cup. In fact, it carries an appraised value of almost $100,000. That's a lot of Big Macs.
If you want to get your hands on the cup, it will be available through an auction on the Ronald McDonald House Charities eBay for Charity page starting today. Though it's worth quite a pretty penny, the bidding for it starts at just $1. All of the proceeds from the winning bid will go to the Ronald McDonald House and bidding ends at 5 a.m. on March 6.
If you don't have that much coin laying around, there is also another way to get your paws on a golden cup. Starting today, each customer who orders a Shamrock Shake or Oreo Shamrock McFlurry via the McDonald's website or mobile app will be entered to win a Golden Shamrock Shake. This also goes through March 6.
We got a chance to admire the cup for ourselves IRL and, um, yeah, you definitely want to try and get this thing. It's fancy and I wish I could drink every beverage out of it. Let's face it, you were going to get yourself a shake and McFlurry anyway, so you might as well shoot your shot by ordering via mobile! The rest of us will just be drinking out of a paper cup...but we're all drinking Shamrock Shakes so I guess it's okay!
