Nothing like a bit of mold to scare you off eating just about anything. Even if you're a person who cuts mold off cheese before eating it (you will survive the apocalypse! I will not!), nobody LOVES to see mold on their food...unless you're Burger King.
The fast food chain posted a video this week showing a Whopper slowly being overtaken by mold in an effort to raise awareness of the fact that it has removed artificial preservatives from the burger in most European countries and select markets in the United States.
“The Burger King brand is currently rolling out the Whopper sandwich with no preservatives, colors, or flavors from artificial sources in the U.S.," President Americas, Burger King Corporation Christopher Finazzo said in a press release: "The product is already available in more than 400 restaurants in the country and will reach all restaurants throughout the year."
In the ad, you see a delicious-looking Whopper that becomes slowly and slowly more inedible over the course of 34 days. It ends with the tagline: "The beauty of no artificial preservatives."
It's certainly, um, eye-catching. After all, we're used to food in commercials that is so beautiful that mass-produced restaurant food couldn't possibly keep up. That said, it'll be tough to remove this image from our minds when we do our next Burger King run, but once the smell of fried food hits, I think we'll all do just fine getting our appetites back.
