In the long, long list of things millennials have apparently killed, cereal is near the top. Supposedly we're not eating it because we're lazy (tell that to the box of Peanut Butter Puffins that I eat dry handfuls of at my desk!), but General Mills has a plan to combat that...and it comes in the form of a newish cereal that will cost you upwards of $13.
The cereal, which was reported on by CNBC, is called Morning Summit and is being marketing as a healthier alternative to many of the sugary cereals you may have grown up eating and loving. It launched in late 2019 and is made with almonds, cereal flakes, dried cherries, dried cranberries, and pumpkin seeds, according to its box, and frankly looks delicious! But it will also cost you a pretty penny.
CNBC reported that the cereal costs $13 but when I checked Walmart's site, the cereal was being sold for a whopping $26.27. It's also listed on Amazon for $24.86 a box.
In the cereal's defense, looking at the ingredients list, it's made with tons of simple and "clean" foods and not a lot of added sugars. It also has pretty great reviews. If you've ever tried to make trail mix at home, you'll know that individually, this stuff can cost a pretty penny, so this could be a good alternative for those looking for a healthy breakfast and who want to grab and go.
“Our strategy to drive continued cereals growth is centered on launching compelling innovation that offers taste, convenience and health benefits, while investing in brand building,” CEO Jeff Harmening said at the annual Consumer Analyst Group of New York (CAGNY) investor conference: “That engages consumers and gives them another reason to walk down the aisle.”
Still, if I can get Trix for $2.98 at Walmart, I'll probably go for that, pair it with an apple, and call it a well-balanced meal. To each her own!
