Although the chill in the air might not indicate it, warmer weather is slowly creeping up on us. That means the last of the winter- and holiday-inspired treats will be disappearing from shelves to make room for the spring-ready ones. Among them is Hostess’ Carrot Cake Donettes, which are back for another season!
Hostess Donettes, which are mini donuts, come in a range of flavors, including Glazed, Frosted Chocolate, Powdered, Cinnamon Sugar Crunch, Hot Cocoa & Marshmallow, Frosted Strawberry, and Fruitfetti. The limited-edition Carrot Cake flavor first hit the Donettes line-up in 2017 well before Easter time.
A typical carrot cake is made with fresh grated carrots and plenty of spices, like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. So we’re hoping a similar flavor comes through in these mini donuts!
Instagram accounts @thetastyturtle and @snackbetch have posted pictures of the Carrot Cake Donettes in Walmart. It doesn’t seem like it’s an exclusive flavor, since they’re listed on Meijer’s website — but at least there are Walmart locations across the country, so make that first stop. You’ll find them in a box of eight packs with three donuts in each.
Now could we find a recipe and bake our own carrot cake from scratch? Sure, but these donuts mean that we can have them every day (and it’s a whole lot less work for us).
