Update, February 20, 2020 2:13 p.m.: Time to break out your happy dance because Dunkin' officially confirmed today that it will be selling matcha lattes starting next week.
Dunkin's matcha is made with matcha green tea powder, which was "produced in the Nishio region of Aichi prefecture, Japan, where the finest Matcha has been grown for more than 800 years." It's then blended with your choice of milk and it can be served hot, iced, or frozen. Is it iced tea season already?
The chain saw lots of success when it tested the product out in Springfield, MA, and Phoenix, AZ, last year so you can be pretty sure this stuff will be delicious. You can pick the matcha up at participating Dunkin's starting February 26.
Original, February 6, 2020 4:49 p.m.: You already know that Dunkin’s coffee lineup is sick, but apparently it’s about to get even more amazing. The chain is reportedly planning to release matcha lattes later this month, and dang, they look delicious.
@CandyHunting broke the news on Instagram, thanks to an insider tip-off. “The next limited edition coffee flavor at Dunkin' will be matcha!” they wrote in the caption. “Matcha lattes (and it looks like Coolattas) will be out from February 26 - March 31. For those not familiar with matcha, it is a powder made from ground green tea leaves. Huge thanks to the people involved with sending the news (left anonymous for obvious reasons).”
People were understandably jazzed in the comments. “Love matcha. I may have to try one,” one wrote. “I love matcha so much 😍❤️,” another said.
@CandyHunting also shared a snapshot of what appears to be an official Dunkin’ press folder, dated March 2020—and there’s not just matcha to get excited about. According to the photo, Dunkin’ also plans to release something called sweet black pepper snacking bacon, which appears to be a bunch of sweet and spicy bacon packed into one container. OMG.
Also in the mix: new protein muffins and what appears to be info on changing the standard cheese in Dunkin’ sandwiches to white cheddar.
We’ve reached out to a Dunkin’ rep for more, and they told us the following: "Although we're unable to confirm any new Dunkin' menu items at this time, we'll be in touch soon when we have exciting news to share about our spring menu." So I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
