Update, June 18, 2020: Listen up, party people: Starting today, Dairy Queen is selling Piñata Party Blizzards with a birthday cake center. They're only around for a limited time, so don't procrastinate if you want the chance to try one.
The Blizzards are essentially a surprise party in a cup and mimic the piñata cake concept. The treat is made with rich confetti cake pieces and pink confetti icing. At the center, it's filled with confetti cake white chocolate stars in pink, blue, and white. It's finished with a whipped topping and a rainbow of edible glitter.
The offering is available at participating DQ locations while supplies last. Birthday cake lovers, especially, need to get in on this. Plus, the bright, colorful blizzards seem like the perfect way to celebrate summer and Pride month.
Original post, January 22, 2020: Fact: When you want a delicious blizzard, you go to Dairy Queen. But while DQ has brought its Blizzard A-game for years with flavors like chocolate chip cookie dough, Oreo, and Butterfinger, there’s a serious lack of confetti in the mix. Apparently, that’s about to change.
According to a new Instagram post, DQ plans to release a Piñata Party Blizzard this summer for a limited time, and it's the treat of your funfetti dreams. The news was leaked by Lynn Dairy Queens, which is a group of DQs in southwestern Pennsylvania. Someone from the group went to the consumer conference, Avid Connect, and tried out the new treat—and it looks epic.
“Sampling a Piñata Party Blizzard Treat at #connect2020 🎉🙌🎊 Stay tuned for its limited release this summer!” they wrote in the caption.
People promptly freaked out. “Please tell me this was as delicious as it looked. I can’t wait to try it,” one person wrote. “Planning a ‘splurge day’ as we speak. It will be worth it!” another said.
Here’s what we know right now, based on what Lynn Dairy Queens said in the comments: The Blizzard features “cake pieces, cake batter pieces, and icing,” so it’s basically like cake, mixed with vanilla soft serve, in a cup.
It sounds reminiscent of the Confetti Cake Blizzard, which DQ sold a few years back that was so beloved that it inspired Change.org petitions to bring it back. If it's anything similar, we sure are in for a treat. We reached out to Dairy Queen for more info and will update this post if we hear back.
This new treat is apparently going to debut “sometime in June” and just for a short run. Only six more months to go 'til June...but who's counting?
