When you think Valentine's Day, you likely think of the classics: flowers, chocolates, teddy bears, those chalky lil candy hearts. After a year without the heart-shaped candies, they'll be returning from their hiatus for Valentine's Day 2020 but will look a little different from the ones we all know and love.

Last year was a whirlwind for these candies since Necco, the company known for making candy hearts and other old-timey sweets, was sold to Spangler candy. Due to this switch, it was simply not possible for the heart-shaped candy to be produced in time for Valentine's Day last year. Whether you love them or hate them, these candies are a staple to the holiday, even if it's just to read what sayings are printed on them without eating actually eating any.

After seeing just how necessary candy hearts are to the holiday, Spangler realized they had to bring them back for Valentine's this year, according to TIME. But that feat wasn't as easy as it sounds. In fact, it required 60 truck loads of equipment to be transported from the old Necco factory in Massachusetts.

Transporting equipment wasn't the only challenge: The printer used to put the cute and flirty sayings on the candies was having technical difficulties. Spangler tried to get a new printer to use but it was also damaged, TIME reported. So it looks like while the candies are coming back, they may not be as outspoken as the ones of years past—as in they'll literally be missing their sayings. Let's hope by Valentine's Day 2021 the candies will be back in their original form and better than ever. Fingers crossed!
