Eating healthy at fast food joints used to be nearly impossible, but better-for-you menu options have been popping up everywhere. Chick-fil-A already has a couple salad options on the menu, but they've added a new item that may be a fierce competition for the classic waffle fries: a kale crunch salad.

Fast food salads can be hit or miss, with low quality lettuce and so many toppings that it barely feels like a healthy alternative to the fries you could have ordered. Not this kale salad. It's simple but flavorful and uses leafy, green kale instead of the chunky iceberg lettuce so many other salads tend to default to.

It features kale and green cabbage that is then dressed with apple cider and mustard vinaigrette. To add the "crunch," the salad is topped with salted, roasted almonds.

This menu item made its debut at select test locations last year, but is now rolling out to all Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide. According to the nutrition facts listed on Chick-fil-A's site, the salad totals around 120 calories, nine grams of fat, eight grams of carbs, and three grams of protein.

The kale crunch salad will be sold for around $2.79 each, although that price may vary from location to location. You can swap out the french fries that come with most combo meals for the salad instead for no additional cost. If you're trying to make an effort to eat a little better or just want to try something new, this salad is the perfect option to go with your chicken nuggets.
