The Great British Baking Show, or as it's known across the pond, The Great British Bake-Off, has seen its fair share of changes over the years, and it looks another devastating one is afoot. Co-host Sandi Toksvig announced Thursday that she's leaving the show after three seasons. NO!!
Sandi, who co-hosts the show with comedian Noel Fielding, made this sad announcement via a statement on her Twitter.
When stepping down from a job it is quite common for people to say they are doing so in order to spend more time with their family. Unusually I am departing from the Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work. As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all consuming show. Spending time with Prue, Paul, and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television.
GBBS Judge Prue Leith and Noel expressed their sadness about the departure on Twitter. Literally, holding back tears right now.
Judge Paul Hollywood released a statement on Instagram saying "I will miss Sandi, she has done an amazing job in the tent, much loved by all who met her. I wish Sandi continued success in all that she does XX."
In a formal press release on the matter, Channel 4, which airs the show in the U.K. said that she would be focusing on hosting the series The Write Offs, which looks at the issue of adult literacy.
In the meantime, the show will be searching for her replacement. Fans of the show will know that prior to this current group, the show was hosted by Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, and judged by Paul and fan-favorite Mary Berry.
If you're waiting for one last look at the show as it has been for the last few seasons, the press release did note that Sandi, Noel, Paul and Prue will be back for The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer in the spring.
