Back in August, Burger King released its Impossible Whopper Nationwide. Now, a promotional video about the Impossible Whopper launch has just resurfaced because an online group is mad that the ad features a man saying the word "damn."
The video in question is only about a minute long and shows the opening of an "Impossible Restaurant" with patrons waiting outside to try the new Whopper. When customers are allowed in, the video shows them all enjoying the plant-based Whoppers and they give quick reviews about how good they thought it was. About 45 seconds in, one man takes a bite of the burger and says, "Damn. That's good."
One Million Moms is the group that has a problem with this portion of the advertisement—the organization is a division of the American Family Association, and lists on its website that the goal of the group is to "stop the exploitation of our children, especially by the entertainment media."
In a press release by the group, they express that they believe the language used was inappropriate, referencing it only as "the d-word." The group insisted that the language could have easily been edited out: "The language in the commercial is offensive, and it’s sad that this once family restaurant has made yet another deliberate decision to produce a controversial advertisement instead of a wholesome one," the press release stated.
According to OneMillionMoms.com, the group has previously been outspoken about their distaste toward an ad aired on Hallmark that featured a same sex couple as well as a line of gender inclusive dolls by Mattel. Burger King declined Delish's request for comment, and the company has not yet responded publicly to the disapproving press release.
Replies to the Burger King video from August have now been flooded with opinions since its resurfacing. The majority of replies are people that are taking Burger King's side, saying there's nothing wrong with the word and the campaign is all an overreaction.
