Last year was the year of the chicken sandwich wars, and 2020 is already gearing up to be the year of the fast food breakfast wars. McDonald's is releasing new breakfast items and Wendy's is rolling out a full breakfast menu—all rumored to be happening this month. Now, though, Burger King will begin testing out its Breakfast Croissan'wich. Let the games begin.
According to Chew Boom, the sandwich is set to hit select select locations in late January. So, looks like January is going to have a lot of breakfast going on. Most important meal of the day, though, right?
The Croissan'wich is just as the name suggests, a croissant cut in half to be a breakfast sandwich which seems like the buttery, flaky food of my very dreams. It will feature an egg patty, American cheese, and—plot twist!—the sausage patty is actually a plant-based Impossible Foods sausage.
Now, this may seem strange, because although the sausage patty is vegan, the sandwich as a whole is not because of the egg and the cheese. This isn't the first sandwich of this sort that cut meat but kept other non-vegan items; the fast food chain released a "Rebel Whopper" that has a soy patty but also includes mayonnaise. Additionally, the sandwich is cooked on the same grill as the real meat patties, so it's technically not suitable for strict vegans and vegetarians.
As of now, Chew Boom reports, the Croissan'wich will not be available at Burger King locations nationwide. It will first be tested at 139 restaurant locations in Georgia, New Mexico, Alabama, Illinois, and Michigan.
