It's only three days into 2020 but one IHOP server got a pretty sweet surprise courtesy of Donnie Wahlberg and a social media tipping challenge.
Jenny McCarthy, who is married to Donnie, posted a photo of a receipt from IHOP where Donnie left a $2,020 tip on a $78.45 bill when the couple shared a meal on New Year's Day.
He included a note on the receipt, noting that it was part of the 2020 Tip Challenge, which People Magazine pointed out is a social media tipping challenge which began in Michigan, when someone gave a $2,020 tip on a $23 bill.
When People reached out to the IHOP server, Bethany Provencher, who received Donnie's tip, she said she was already delighted to be serving him because she was a "very big New Kids on the Block fan," when she was younger.
Bethany said that Donnie told her not to open the receipt until he left and once she did and saw the tip she almost "fell to the floor."'
“I just started crying. I couldn’t believe it. I mean, who does that? It was a blessing,” she said. “I just moved into an apartment, I’m a single mother—by myself with my son. So I struggle every day to make ends meet. And now I can buy furniture and put some money in the bank, and make sure my son is good.”
She also told People Magazine that Donnie and Jenny called the restaurant later so she was able to speak with them and thank them.
