A YouTuber says she was fired from her job at Starbucks because she disparaged the chain's coffee in one of her videos...but, according to the coffee chain, she was terminated for "admitting to theft."
Abegael Milot posted a video last week called "i got fired from starbucks [sic] because of my channel." In the video, she outlines how her coworkers would often discuss her channel, where she frequently taught viewers how to re-create Starbucks drinks at home.
After her manager watched some of her videos, she says it all "went downhill." Milot said that the "head of communications" at Starbucks wanted to to speak to her and that her district manager was present as well.
Milot said that their biggest issue was the in one of her videos, she had expressed that Pike Place Roast "tastes like ass."
"They were so pressed about that statement," she said. "They asked me to explain why I said that, and I was like, 'well...because it do.'"
Though Milot said she gets why she was fired, because it was "defamation," she said she was mad about "how it all went down."
After she made a video about her termination, BuzzFeed contacted Starbucks to confirm the details of her firing. The chain, however, gave a different primary reasoning for her termination.
"This former partner was separated after she admitted to theft, among other reasons," Jory Mendes, the senior manager of corporate communications at Starbucks, told BuzzFeed News. The chain gave the same comment to other outlets.
When asked to explain the circumstances around her firing further, BuzzFeed says that Starbucks did not reply. Delish did not immediately hear back from Starbucks after a request for comment.
When BuzzFeed went back to Milot to inquire about this update, she said that was "a big difference than from what I was told."
Later, Milot said that the one thing she could think of that they could be referring to is that she used a cup of marshmallow syrup from work in one of her recipes, but said that she asked for it on the side of one of her drinks.
"As an employee I am able to get free drinks, and I got syrup on the side. I don’t know if that’s what they’re referring to," she said.
In the end, Milot said she has already has a new job and that they let her film videos there.
"I got another job already making coffees so i’m still ur internet coffee hoe don’t worry," she confirmed in an updated comment.
