Spoilers are called just that for a reason, people. They ruin the authenticity of watching a movie or TV show for the first time. You can’t get that experience back! Well, Burger Kings in Germany are giving free Whoppers away to anyone who wants to throw that experience out the window for the highly-anticipated release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Here’s how the promotion works: On the Burger King app, there’s a voice-activated coupon that has the alleged spoilers in it. Customers have to read the spoilers out loud to score a free Whopper. The burger joint put out a video for the promotion that features customers freaking out over the supposed spoilers that are weaved into the menu.
Don’t watch this if you don’t want to risk it:
Honestly, it’s so savage. It seems as though you can’t walk into a participating Burger King without seeing a spoiler. They have spoilers on the workers’ shirts, all the signs, and it looks like they even have them on the straws! Like, come on! One poor woman could not escape the spoilers when all she wanted was a meal.
The campaign fails to actually mention Star Wars in the video, but it’s clear as day that the space saga they mention (yellow type on a black screen and all) references the franchise. For extra emphasis, some people in the video sport Leia buns and Jedi cloaks. Two versions of the video are running, BTW: one with spoilers and one without them (i.e. the "safe" version). Finally, some decency in this madness!
But here’s the real question: Are these spoilers accurate? There isn’t any proof yet. The movie comes out on December 20, so we won’t know for sure until then. My condolences to all those who enter a German Burger King that partakes in this messiness.
