Get ready to have a new favorite breakfast at McDonald's because the chain is reportedly going to offer chicken breakfast options nationwide starting next year.
Business Insider reported that according to an internal memo from McDonald's, the chain is set to roll out breakfast options like Chicken McGriddles and Chicken Biscuits starting in 2020. These are already offered in some markets, about half of the U.S. restaurants, but this could mean they'll be offered everywhere.
It's not clear exactly which of the current chicken breakfast sandwiches will be on the menu nationwide or if there will be new ones in store. My hope is for a Chicken McGriddle because I believe chicken and waffles to be a perfect food and this is pretty darn close.
“America has loved McDonald’s breakfast since the iconic Egg McMuffin debuted in McDonald’s restaurants in 1975. We will continue to bring new and delicious craveable options, freshly prepared in our kitchens to our customers, so stay tuned," McDonald's said in a statement to Delish.
Regardless of when and if McDonald's rolls out its menu, you'll still be able to get plenty of chicken at breakfast next year. Wendy's is set to offer a honey butter chicken breakfast sandwich when it goes nationwide with breakfast in 2020, and Chick-fil-A currently offers a few breakfast sandwiches that include chicken.
Essentially, what we're gearing up for is Chicken Sandwich Wars Part Two: Morning Edition. OK...title needs a little work but you get the idea.
