It's finally Halloween and after what seemed like a very long, very pumpkin spice-filled lead up to the holiday, some communities will have to wait a little bit longer to celebrate with trick-or-treating...because of the weather.

Some towns and cities across the U.S. have announced that they are postponing trick-or-treating this year after some terrible weather has settled in across the country. Heavy rain and flooding are a threat in some areas, while others are concerned about wind and cold, and in Chicago, even snow.

And this isn't isolated to one area; cities and towns in Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Virginia have announced delays in their trick-or-treating schedules, as Fox Business pointed out. Some towns in New York and Pennsylvania even opted to celebrate a day earlier.

"People understand that while there's a little bit of an inconvenience, it's being done for the safety of everyone involved," Vernon Hills, Illinois Police Commander Jim Levicki told ABC Chicago. The area is expected to see up to three inches of snow.

The concern is obviously that trick-or-treating can bring out children of all ages and inclement weather like snow, rain, and wind can create unsafe situations for those walking around outside, as well as drivers. Similar delays happened following Hurricane Sandy and in 2011 following a Northeaster, shown in the photo at the top of this article.

You'll, of course, have to check your local news to see if trick-or-treating has been moved in your area. If it has, many communities are moving to a Saturday celebration. If that's not an option for you, others have noted that indoor trick-or-treats are often held in malls and other similar places so be sure to keep an eye out for those, too.
