Update: January 21, 2020 10:32 a.m. If you haven't had a chance to try Mountain Dew Maui Burst, well, you're in luck. Mountain Dew announced this week that the pineapple flavor was such a hit, it's staying as part of the brand's permanent line-up.
The sweet, summery flavor was first released as a limited-time-only offering last fall, but the soda is now back on shelves at Dollar General and it's sticking around for good. It will remain a Dollar General exclusive and be available starting February 1 at Dollar General stores nationwide. That means it will be here for the actual summer, where it truly belongs.
Just in case you need a reminder, it's $1 per 16 ounce can of the stuff...so I guess what I'm saying is, you should give this stuff a try. What do you have to lose? Okay...a dollar. But that's it!
Original: October 14, 2019 1:26 p.m. Mountain Dew has come in some pretty crazy iterations over the years. From the cult-favorite Code Red, to the most recent limited-edition Halloween creation of VooDew, Mountain Dew's makers have gotten pretty creative. But they may have truly outdone themselves with the newest flavor, Maui Burst.
The flavor is basically Mountain Dew infused with "splashes" of real juice and pineapple flavor, making it a sort of citrus and sweet blend. We haven't tried it ourselves, but tons of people have, and it's gotten pretty great reviews. Instagrammer @Dadbodsnacks described it as "a mellow pineapple/citrus flavor that still holds true to the classic Dew flavor."
Others like @hodgekaze agreed and said that "the pineapple is obvious but shares the stage well with the signature Mtn Dew kick and the 'other natural flavors." Generally, the consensus seems to be that this is a not-overly-sweet and refreshing soda. I'm into it and honestly, I can see this being delicious with a bit of tequila in it. But then again, what is not delicious with a little tequila in it?
If you're looking to get your hands on this soda, you can only find it in stores at Dollar General, where it goes for $1 a can. If you're not near one of those stores, but you reeaaallly wanna try it, you can also buy it (at a marked-up price) on Ebay. Suddenly I am really craving a pineapple...and tequila.
