Oh, Canada! KFC just gave us another reason to love our neighbors to the north, even if we’re totally jealous. According to Brand Eating, the fried chicken chain has partnered with Frito-Lay to roll out chicken tenders crusted with Lay’s Bar-B-Q potato chips. Wait, didn’t we dream this up in college?
The BBQ-flavored chicken tenders will be available at participating KFC locations in Canada until November 10th of this year. Does that mean that the tenders will then embark on a world tour, starting here in the US of A? Pretty please?
“The Lay’s brand is synonymous with flavor,” Edmonton City News quotes PepsiCo Foods Canada’s Senior Director of Marketing Shirley Mukerjea as saying in a press release. “When KFC Canada asked to team up and combine their signature chicken tenders with our quality, Canadian-made potato chips, we knew right away that KFC x Lay’s Bar-B-Q Tenders would be a hit.” The pairing does make perfect sense—juicy chicken strips covered in all that good crunch that just so happens to be barbecue-flavored? It’s a match made in heaven...and in this case, heaven is Canada.
Canada is known for its unique potato chip flavors that can make us American snackers look totally boring. The Loop created a “Canadian Potato Chip Hall of Fame” honoring varieties like Ketchup, All Dressed (combining barbecue, ketchup, sour cream and onion, and salt and vinegar flavors), and Dill Pickle. Raise your hand if you think KFC should do All Dressed chicken tenders next 🙋.
