Do you all remember the time awhile back when kids had an odd obsession with Tide Pods? (Truly, how could anyone forget?) Well, here's a new, unintentional adult twist. The Glenlivet recently announced a product that allows you to drink its liquor in capsule form, no hands required.
According to Food & Wine, The Glenlivet's new pod-like cocktail capsules made from seaweed, which is apparently one of nature's most renewable resources. The seaweed casing is created by a sustainable packaging company called Notpla. Each capsule is filled with 23 milliliters of Scotch whiskey. These "glassless cocktails" eliminate the need for ice, a stirrer, or a glass when drinking. Very considerate of you, The Glenlivet!
Miriam Eceolaza, director of The Glenlivet, explained it like this: "As a brand that celebrates originality, we are always looking to break the conventions that have determined how single malt Scotch has historically been enjoyed. The Glenlivet Capsule Collection does exactly that, and we're excited to see how people react when they try our glassless cocktails. Our founder, George Smith, always went against the grain, bucking tradition and doing things differently. The Glenlivet Capsule Collection continues his pioneering spirit today."
Unsurprisingly, this innovative idea for a new drinking experience has the internet buzzing—and the products' uncanny resemblance to a Tide Pod is giving social media users a field day. Take a look at some of the best (and most humorous) reactions to The Glenlivet's new product.
Well, you can't blame The Glenlivet for trying something new. Adults can now have a (less dangerous) craze of their own to geek out over and try for themselves—at least those based in England. Right now, the capsules aren't approved for consumption in the U.S., Food & Wine reports. Through October 13, though, London Cocktail Week visitors can try the whiskey pods at Tayēr.
