For over a decade now, Kim Kardashian West has been suffering from psoriasis: an autoimmune skin condition that results in flaky and itchy patches on the surface of the skin. The psoriasis would only happen on and off, but in recent months, she experienced a painful and drastic flare-up that ended up being psoriasis arthritis. The flare caused her to look into new treatment options, which is how she landed on a plant-based diet. She opened up on Kourtney Kardashian's lifestyle website Poosh about the new-ish lifestyle.

The idea to do this presumably came to Kim via a doctor, but the National Psoriasis Foundation notes patients on plant-based diets sometimes see improvement in their conditions. Kim tried acclimating to a more natural diet—which included drinking "herbal tea that tasted like tar" and drinking "celery juice for eight weeks"—long before the newer and more severe symptoms, she noted in the post. Girl even went the extra mile to combine her tea and celery juice and drank that concoction twice a day to see if it'd calm down her condition.

And while she'd dealt with the skin component for years, Kim mentioned a few scary instances (like not being able to pull her pants down to use the bathroom or being able to put a bra on) that made her realize her condition had progressed past that. That's when she got serious about her intake. (Also of note? I guess? Kim recently credited the same diet to her very tiny 24-inch waist.).

So while she was always healthy, she started drinking things like "sea moss smoothies" and, again, all that celery juice. As for what she hopes to accomplish by sharing? "I hope my story can help anyone else with an autoimmune disease feel confident that there is light at the end of the tunnel."

Yo go Kimmy. You go.
