Stars: They're just like us. They go for a morning coffee, they get annoyed when they don't like what they get, and they tweet at the brand in turn. Alicia Silverstone exemplified this circle of life perfectly Tuesday when she tweeted at Starbucks with a few suggestions about their milk options and sustainability.
It all started when Alicia, who often tweets and blogs about environmental issues, said she went in to get a cup of coffee with her reusable cup. She tweeted that when the barista made her drink, they apparently made it in a disposable cup, poured that cup into her reusable cup, and then tossed out the paper cup.
But she wasn't done there. While she was already tweeting about coffee, Alicia also had some qualms about the milk options at Starbucks.
"Also! I'm always frustrated by extra charges for non-dairy milk," she tweeted. "Y should we be penalized 4 making the eco-choice? It would be amazing for @Starbucks to lead the way & consider enviro externalities associated w the dairy industry by having dairy cost + or at least = plantmilk fees."
She still had one last thing to say—a request for unsweetened oat milk at every location.
"Starbucks baristas are encouraged to build drinks directly in customers' reusable cups whenever possible," a Starbucks rep told Delish. "This builds on our longstanding commitment to sustainability and an elevated customer experience. We will take this opportunity to review guidance to our partners about personal cup use as we continue to be mindful of waste":
Adding a splash of any alternative milk to brewed or iced coffee, cold brew or Americano is always offered free of charge. The price of our beverages is based on a standard recipe, so any customizations not part of a beverage's standard recipe, which could include adding flavors, swapping in an alternative milk or an additional shot of espresso, those will incur a small charge.
As far as unsweetened oat milk goes, it looks like Alicia will have to keep waiting on that one.
