Welp, LeBron James' attempt at trademarking "Taco Tuesday" was...unsucessful. According to the New York Times, the patent office rejected his request, calling it "a commonplace term, message or expression widely used by a variety of sources that merely conveys an ordinary, familiar, well-recognized concept or sentiment."

The office also said it was too similar to the phrase "Techno Taco Tuesday," which, weirdly, is trademarked. It's reportedly held by a Las Vegas-based entertainment company. "Merely omitting some of the wording from a registered mark may not overcome a likelihood of confusion," they added.

Bummer, dude.

If you don't follow LeBron James on Instagram (um...why not? It's a true joy) you may not know that the man is OBSESSED with tacos. Specifically on Tuesdays. Now, he's taking his love and making it ~ official ~ by filing for a trademark for the phrase "Taco Tuesday."

James submitted a request to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the phrase on August 15. The trademark request states that he wants to be able to use it for "advertising and marketing services provided by means of indirect methods of marketing communications, namely, social media, search engine marketing, inquiry marketing, internet marketing, mobile marketing, blogging and other forms of passive, sharable or viral communications channels." Basically, the man wants to create a brand around his habit of eating tacos on a particular day. We love it.

Though this filing may seem a bit off-the-wall, it does make sense. James has been all about expanding his empire past sports and into entertainment and other realms recently. And Taco Tuesday has become a total event for his family. He is frequently seen on his Instagram stories eating delicious tacos with them while screaming the phrase, you guessed it, "Taco Tuesday!" They even got T-shirts to celebrate. I'm telling you! They're adorable!

As Eater pointed out, the chain Taco John's actually owns a trademark on the phrase "Taco Tuesday" and has even sent cease and desist letters to those who try and use it. Luckily for them though, ESPN reported that James and his team aren't definitively launching anything with the Taco Tuesday name just yet and are just in the exploratory phases.

For now, Taco Tuesday will just remain a lifestyle for King James himself.
