In the chaos that is the Great Chicken Sandwich War of 2019, it's nice to see a bit of positivity shine through. A North Carolina Chick-fil-A store director was captured on camera serving free chicken sandwiches to stressed out Popeyes employees and the internet loves it.
In case you missed it, Popeyes recently sold out of its new chicken sandwich, but before that, the hype was REAL, with people reportedly lining up down the street to try one and Popeyes employees saying they were working long hours to keep up with the chicken demand.
Jené Walker was hoping to try a Popeyes sandwich when she saw a Chick-fil-A director named Nick handing out chicken sandwiches to employees at the Popeyes, according to WCNC. She said Nick told her that he had noticed the Popeyes employees who normally eat breakfast at his Chick-fil-A across the street had been absent since the sandwich launched. When he saw how crowded the Popeyes had been lately, he told her he empathized with the workers and wanted to give them a little relief in the form of a fried chicken sammie.
Jené was so touched by this action that she posted about it on Facebook where it quickly went viral. People quickly, of course, turned it into a meme, and were generally overwhelmed by the kind act.
"We've looked into this, and the restaurants are apparently right next door to each other," a representative from Chick-fil-A told Business Insider regarding the good deed. "The local restaurant noticed how busy the Popeyes employees were and wanted to do something nice for them, so they brought them free breakfast."
On top of that, when that Popeyes store sold out before Walker and her friend could try the sandwich, she said Nick offered to give her and her friend free food as well. For the record, she says that she's still team Chick-fil-A!
It goes to show that even as the chains fight each other on Twitter, the employees of both chains can still find a way to get along.
