Earlier this week, a tweet called out some of our fav fast food joints for ~allegedly~ "supporting Trump's reelection," naming Olive Garden, Wendy's, McDonald's, In-n-Out, and obviously, Chick-fil-A. But because Donald isn't exactly the most popular elected official out there, customers immediately vowed to boycott the establishments.

The original tweet boasted 240,000 retweets, including one from Chrissy Teigen, adding, "I’m about to get skinny as fuck." The reports sent other fans into a tizzy, too. "Dammit. I love the zuppa toscana and shrimp fritta at @olive garden. O well. I love democracy more. Goodbye, Olive Garden," one user wrote. "So you’re supporting the most corrupt president in history?? Bye bye Olive Garden keep your damn pretend Italian food," another chimed in. The hashtag #BoycottOliveGarden has also gone viral.

Folks are taking the accusations *very* seriously, but OG? They're straight denying the claims. "We don't know where this information came from but it is incorrect," the company clapped back on Twitter. "Our company does not donate to presidential candidates."

The public seemed unsatisfied and persisted, arguing the chain's parent company has financially supported the president's reelection. But again, they denied it. "To clarify, our company, Darden, does not donate to any federal or presidential candidates," they continued.

SO WHAT'S THE TRUTH???

According to the Washington Post, the alleged "proof" only pertains to the 2016 election, not 2020. And even then, the data shows small contributions made by individual restaurant employees, which Darden and Olive Garden have zero involvement in.

In short, you can eat those breadsticks no matter what your political affiliation is! Yay!
