In case you haven't noticed, everyone is talking about fried chicken today. With the Popeyes vs Chick-fil-A vs Wendy's vs everyone else chicken sandwich war raging, it's hard not to have the food on your mind. But you may not know that Pizza Hut has quietly entered the fried chicken ring with fried chicken pizza that just may be the clear winner.
Pizza Hut New Zealand recently announced several southern-fried chicken options (assuming it's Southern U.S. and not Southern NZ!) that are honestly making me consider a move. First up is Fried Chicken and Bacon Ranch Pizza which is topped with fried chicken bites, bacon, red onion, capsicum (aka bell pepper for those in the U.S.), and mozzarella cheese covered in ranch. I have watched this video of their fried chicken pizza cheese pull no less than 100 times. It's mesmerizing.
You can also score the Peri-Peri Fried Chicken Pizza that includes fried chicken bites, bacon, jalapeños, melted mozzarella cheese, and a drizzle of mildly spicy Peri Peri mayo. So basically, it's gonna be really hard for people to pick between the two.
In the not-fried-but-still-chicken sphere, Pizza Hut NZ is also featuring a butter chicken pizza right now that is basically a pizza smothered in butter chicken curry. Basically, New Zealand is doing it bigger and better than us on the chicken front. Maybe that's where we should really be focusing our attention.
