According to Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, fans can expect a major switch-up for season 10. The celeb chef and television personality spoke with Mirror about the upcoming premiere (it's August 27, btw!), admitting some challenges had gotten too tough for competitors.
"It's been interesting to come up with some unusual things this year—the challenges I think have been scaled back a little bit," Hollywood told the outlet. "I thought sometimes we've been running away with some of the challenges being too difficult."
The fellow GBBO judge Prue Leith agreed, noting that even "the most seasoned baker" might not be able to tackle some of the show's more complex technical tasks. "Sometimes you can see a baker in the beginning and you think he or she will be fantastic and just walk it," she said. "And it's quite worrying because you don't really want somebody to just gallop ahead. [But] they all at some point do really badly, so there's sort of a seesaw, and it's really confusing."
While we're not entirely sure what these changes will entail, we did score a few sneak peaks for the season as a whole. Channel 4 dropped a Mad Hatter-themed promo pic before releasing the full trailer shortly thereafter.
"There's a couple of bakers this year who are very good and you wouldn't expect them to be good—I don't think they expect them to be good," Hollywood said. "What hasn't changed is the sort of homely, friendly [atmosphere]," Prue added. "There's no malice to it, we're never wanting to humiliate people or choosing somebody just because we can laugh at them."
