UPDATE: October 30, 2019 at 10:45 a.m.
The cat is out of the bag. One day before Halloween, Mountain Dew announced its seasonal VooDew flavor is...drumroll please...candy corn! While some taste testers did guess the correct flavor, others thought it tasted like a dreamsicle, cream soda, Skittles, or FruitStripe gum.
If this information has you ready to go and try it, you have to do so soon. According to the brand, "The drink will only be available for two more days before being sent to the Mountain Dew graveyard." Spooky szn is ending, y'all!!
UPDATE: August 28, 2019
According to Elite Daily (and many an excited Instagram post), VooDew has finally arrived. In fact, it officially hit stores yesterday. By stores, I mean Walmart, Circle K, and 7-Eleven locations, though, again, per Instagram, it seems to be available elsewhere as well.
First notes from those who've gone out to try it range from "it tastes like a Dreamsicle" to "it tastes like every other mystery flavor I’ve ever had." Some even thought the Halloween-y drink tastes like candy corn. Either way, people are pumped about the sweet new drink. A few more reactions to VooDew below:
ORIGINAL POST: August 16, 2019
The end of summer means it’s totally acceptable to start prepping for Halloween, right?! I’m going to go with a rhetorical “yes,” because Mountain Dew just dropped a new drink that’s giving off major haunted Halloween-y feels.
Aptly named VooDew, the 2019 limited edition is a mystery flavor. But what could it be?! I have so many questions. Is it season inspired? Pumpkin maybe? Or more like that weird white Airhead? It’s not green like the traditional Mountain Dew, but rather a milky, opaque color.
People on Instagram obviously have their thoughts. Pumpkin spice and candy corn were thrown around by a few commenters. But, one user who actually got a coveted sip of the special drink says, “It tastes like a dreamsicle…brown sugar, vanilla cream, orange, and mt dew flavoring.” Another taste-tester said, “Taste ranging from Skittles to FruitStrip Gum to Sweet Tarts” Hmmmm…food for thought.
This isn’t the first buzz we’ve heard about this drink, though. It was originally found on shelves back in March and one company employee slipped the release date on Reddit, too: August 26th. Pepsi Co. trademarked the name back in October of 2018.
That being said, plenty of people have been buying the drink at Walmart and Hy-Vee over the past few days, so we recommend checking your local shelves frequently. Apparently, ‘tis the season. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
