Vegetarians and red meat skeptics alike will soon be able to enjoy Subway's iconic meatball sub. The sandwich chain, which recently collaborated with Halo Top on a healthier milkshake, announced a partnership with Beyond Meat coming to hundreds of stores this September.

You know Beyond Meat as the brand bringing plant-based sausage to Dunkin' and vegan "burgers that bleed" to TGI Fridays. This is the Beyond's first-ever meatball and it was created just for Subway. It's set to be served in a plant-based version of one of Subway's most popular sandwiches: the Meatball Marinara sub. Like the original version, it comes with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese, plus whatever additional toppings you'd like. Comparatively, it actually has more protein—24 grams as opposed to 20 grams in the original six-inch sub.

The sub will start as a limited-time offering, testing in 685 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada. Test cities include Fresno-Visalia, CA; Harrisburg, PA, Jackson, MS; Louisville, KY; and South Bend-Elkhart, IN; as well as Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. And while the Beyond Meatballs will be featured in this particular sub, they can be added to any create-your-own sandwich, flatbread, or wrap, too.

In a press release, Subway's Chief Brand and Innovation Officer Len Van Popering said this of the collaboration:

Subway appeals to so many fans because we truly offer something for everyone. Our guests want to feel good about what they eat and they also want to indulge in new flavors. With our new plant-based Beyond Meatball. Marinara sub, we are giving them the best of both worlds. And, we are particularly excited about debuting a co-developed product that can’t be found anywhere else: the Beyond Meatball. made just for Subway.
