Some have said there's nothing better than an original glazed Krispy Kreme straight out of the oven. And while that may be true (ok fine, we've definitely said it), that doesn't mean the donut shop is resting on its laurels. In honor of the moon landing's 50th anniversary this summer, Krispy Kreme decided to innovate its most popular donut with "a new taste experience that is out of this world," as Dave Skena, the brand's Chief Marketing Officer, put it (you have to give it to them—they're staying on theme!).

The result...original glazed donuts stuffed with Kreme filling. On the outside, they look nearly identical to the classic: circular with a hole in the middle and a thin layer of regular glaze on the outside. The squiggle of frosting on top is the only thing indicating the change. Inside the ring you'll find chocolate or classic Kreme filling.

If it sounds like the Glazed With Kreme Filling donut, you're not wrong. However, that particular donut has a design flaw. Its blobby shape makes it VERY messy to eat. (I know, we're getting super scientific here). With the ring shape, you don't have to worry about filling jetting out the side of the donut whenever you take a bite. They're delicious! And while the original Original will always hold the #1 spot in our hearts, the Original Filled is pretty damn great, too.

Krispy Kreme

Good news if you feel as passionately about this new donut as we do: It's here to stay! While the other original glazed variations (chocolate glazed, lemon glazed) have been limited time offers, this one is being added to the permanent menu. And based on Krispy Kreme's wording—"Original Filled Doughnuts will be permanently available in the U.S., initially in two flavors"—there could be more fillings to come! Cheers to moon landings! And donuts!
