With summertime set to (officially) kick off next week, we here at Delish have been craving classic warm weather treats. Whether its s'mores-flavored wafer cookies or watermelon-flavored lemonade, we've done our due diligence and have been working hard to prep our tastebuds for summer.
Thankfully, KFC came by the office to help with this preparation. They brought buckets of their classic fried chicken...and a little surprise: Mountain Dew's new drink, "Sweet Lightning." At first sight, this sucker looked pretty much just like the classic Dew (see: alarmingly yellow and drenched in sugar). Many of us didn't know how to feel about washing down fried chicken with something so bubbly, but to our complete surprise, there was not a bubble in sight. And it went down so smoothly!
Another surprise? The flavor of the collaborative beverage. Instead of the classic citrus-y vibe we expect from the soda, we got notes of peach and honey. It was only natural we conclude this drink is basically your grandma's homemade sweet tea? Just...maybe the 2019 version? It definitely doesn't give the same sense of natural sweetness, and, like most classic soft drinks, it yields a heavier, syrupy finish, but other than that, this drink keeps it simple, and is pretty much the perfect summertime drink.
After trying out Mountain Dew's last collaboration, Baja Blast, we shouldn't be surprised by this new launch with KFC. They didn't not disappoint and are truly killing the soft drink game. Plus, their new mascot Sweet has swagger and is definitely worth checking out. Just saying...
