Princess Charlotte is celebrating her fourth birthday with three adorable photos—and in each sweet snap, Charlotte bears a striking resemblance to childhood pictures of her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
The new portraits, which were taken by the Duchess of Cambridge at the family's country estate Anmer Hall, show a playful Charlotte running around the grounds of her home. In two photos, the little royal is wearing a plaid dress with a grey cardigan on top, a outfit combination once worn by Queen Elizabeth herself. In a photo from 1936, Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret, are seen wearing matching plaid skirts with sweaters as they play with a family corgi.
Of course, the Queen's love of plaid has remained steady throughout the years. The monarch has worn her signature pattern on numerous occasions, including to the Royal Windsor horse show last May.
The similarities between Princess Charlotte and Queen Elizabeth don't end there. Both royals also love floral print. In the third portrait released for Charlotte's birthday, the princess is wearing a blue floral dress with a white collar, a similar look to an outfit Elizabeth was photographed in back in 1936. Unlike the Queen, however, Charlotte paired her dress with a bold shoe choice: navy blue sneakers.
Like her preference for plaid, the Queen's decades-long love of floral clothing has also been well-documented. The Queen has consistently relied on brightly colored floral patterns on numerous occasions through the years, so it's no surprise that the trend caught on with the youngest generation of royals.
In addition to her clothing choices, Charlotte has also perfected her great-grandmother's royal wave—which she proudly showed off multiple times last year, like when she met her little brother, Prince Louis, for the first time. Charlotte's wave also comes in handy when the princess serves as a bridesmaid. Her signature move was on display in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding last May, and at Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October. We have no doubt Charlotte will continue to learn from the Queen in the coming years!
