Unilever, Ben & Jerry's parent company, has voluntarily recalled two Ben & Jerry's flavors in limited quantities, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The Coconut 7-Layer Bars in bulk and the Chunky Monkey pints were recalled because they may contain tree nuts (including almonds, Brazil nuts, and hazelnuts) that are not listed on the ingredient or allergen list for either flavor.

Both of the affected products do include a "contains walnuts" and "may contain other tree nuts" label on the back of the package. Still, those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to the undeclared tree nuts risk a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the recalled flavors.

The recalled Coconut 7-Layer Bar bulk product comes in a tub containing 2.4 gallons with a Consumer UPC of 076840104246 and a "best by" date of SEP1520BJ4. The Chunky Monkey pints have a Consumer UPC of 076840100354 with "best by" dates of AUG2820BH2, AUG2920BH2, or AUG3020BH2.

The ice cream was made in the U.S. and the Chunky Monkey pints were distributed nationwide to retail stores. The affected Coconut 7-Layer Bar bulk ice cream was distributed nationwide, as well, through wholesale and scoop shops.

The FDA notes that no other container sizes or "best by" dates of Ben & Jerry's products are affected by this particular recall, which was initiated after an undeclared nut was found during production. Unilever hasn't received any reports of illness associated with the ice cream, but the recall comes "out of an abundance of caution."

According to the statement, "Unilever's ongoing investigation shows that the issue stemmed from an error from one of its nut suppliers. The situation has been remediated."

If you've purchased any of the recalled products with the affected UPC and "best by" dates, Unilever asks that you "immediately discontinue use of the product, retain the outer container, and call 833-236-1237 for more information."
