Tuesday night, Halo Top premiered their first (ever!) national television campaign during a break of the Bachelor's Women Tell All. (Right after giving a teary contestant a year's supply of ice cream—but more on that in a bit.) And the commercial debut happened to star a familiar face for fans of the franchise: Nick Viall. The 30-second clip, which was created in partnership with creative agency 72andSunny New York, advertised the brand's beloved low-calorie treat as "Ice Cream For Adults." And who better to serve as the poster boy of heartbreak than the twice dumped—on national TV no less—former Bachelor.
The ad is a lesson in relationships for a pair of lovestruck kids who are quick to learn—from both a pessimistic ice cream man and Viall himself—that happiness isn't the key to a pint of Halo Top. Rather "realizing that love is an illusion and we all die alone" is. Noted. "You know what, love is always worth it in the end," Nick tells the young couple, before diving spoon first into his own scoop. "Really?" they ask and Viall laughs. "No, not even close." Welp.
The entire campaign follows this theme that the struggles of adulthood (think: mortgages, online dating woes, and unethical employers) make grown-ups more deserving of the delicious low-calorie alternative. "I believe everyone can relate to the need for ice cream after a rough day," Founder and CEO Justin Woolverton said in a statement earlier this week. "We're excited to bring this concept to life and feel like it's a great way to demonstrate that Halo Top is exactly what adults have been waiting for—delicious ice cream with around 300 calories a pint."
Viall wasn't the only Bachelor Nation member to get a little Halo Top healing Tuesday. After being taunted on air for her crying tendencies throughout Colton's season, contestant Nicole Lopez-Alvar was gifted an year-long supply of free ice cream. Worth the tears.
