On Tuesday, KFC announced new Innovations Lab's plans: a KFC bucket hot tub. But to bring their "craziest and most innovative marketing ideas to life" in 2019, the fried chicken chain is looking to customers for the financial support to get their bucket-shaped hot tub and Colonel On Ice concepts off the ground. Utilizing the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, the Yum! Brands subsidiary released a video featuring their lineup of wild inventions and asked fans to donate.
"KFC was founded with the spirit of innovation—the Colonel's patented pressure frying process, bucket packaging, and his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices took the world by storm," U.S. director of media and digital marketing Steve Kelly said in a statement. "With the launch of KFC Innovations Lab, non-Colonels can now be part of that process and support important projects such as a hot tub that looks like a bucket of fried chicken, so we can keep focusing on making actual buckets of fried chicken."
While my personal pick is obviously the hot tub—think of the Instagram potential!—with its "wood-fired thermosyphoning heating technology," spacious layout, and hilarious design, the campaign caters to customer opinion. If the location-tracking necktie, Smart Cane television remote, cardboard picnic table, or that Colonel On Ice show are more up your alley, contribute to those products. Each donation will go directly towards the innovation of your choice. Plus, there are perks. Participants can earn KFC Innovations Lab swag! So, sport your branded sweatpants, t-shirts, or 3-D puffy stickers to boast about your investor status.
Each project has a different fundraising goal—ranging from $10 thousand to $2 million. However, if the amount is not met, funds will be returned. The Little Colonel Locater—which just launched earlier today—is currently in the lead with $598 in donations.
But can we PLEASE get the hot tub in the running??? Where are your priorities, people?
