There's a lot to look forward to when it comes to the Super Bowl: the food, the parties, and, of course, the commercials. The big day is still more than a week away, but we're already seeing previews of the ads that will be shown during the game. Most recently, Planters released a clip of its Super Bowl ad, and it features a familiar face.
Alex Rodriguez stars in the Planters ad with brand mascot Mr. Peanut, marking his first-ever Super Bowl commercial cameo. The preview of the commercial shows Mr. Peanut throwing nuts into A-Rod's mouth. Rodriguez told People that he is "so excited and thrilled to be a part of this. It’s really a dream come true. I’ve never been in a Super Bowl ad, and I sort of dreamed about it, but I never dreamed this high."
And if you're wondering who Rodriguez is rooting for, he's going with the Patriots...kinda. "I don’t have a particular team I root for, I’m a fan of the game, the league," he said. "But Tom Brady is a buddy, and I always cheer for him."
Planters had previously teased their commercial and asked fans to guess who they were teaming up with.
This is Planters' first Super Bowl commercial in 11 years, the brand hasn't shown an ad during the game since 2008. According to Adage, the new ad will feature a new tagline, "always there in crunch time," and the ad will also show just how far Mr. Peanut would go to give snacks to fans.
You can catch Rodriguez in the Planters ad during the second quarter of the Super Bowl.
