2019 is all about entrepreneur Lance. Yep, that Lance—the one you know and love from the treasured *NSYNC days and more recently for his activism and hilarious Instagram presence. Lance has a lot going on next year, from having kids with husband Michael Turchin to expanding the Bubble Tap Trailer. But first, he's celebrating New Year's Eve.
This year, Lance and Michael are celebrating the turn of the year in New York City, where Lance is working with Barefoot Bubbly to spread some holiday cheer (watch the couple toast the new year on TV or online at TimesSquareNYC.org around 9:25pm EST!).
Delish caught up with the singer, TV host, and foodie to talk holidays, wine, and one very memorable, mildly disastrous, New Year's Eve.
His Worst New Year's Eve Ever
Many moons ago, on the eve of 2001, Lance Bass was hosting MTV's New Year's Eve countdown at the Roseland Ballroom in New York. Never mind the blizzard that had come through, cancelling almost every live event but his—there was one other problem capturing Lance's attention: "I got food poisoning from Burger King!"
OY.
"I was on air, I was trying to do as much as I can, and I was looking white as a ghost," he recalls. "I would just throw up in the commercial breaks."
Despite it being 2001, a clip of that night lives on. Watch below for a distinctly pale-looking Lance chugging along. Fingers crossed 2019 starts off more smoothly than 2001!
The Rise of the Bubble Tap Trailer
Along with sisters Jennifer and Nicole Disotell, Lance runs the Bubble Tap Trailer, a genius prosecco keg-on-wheels that's making its way to weddings, parties, and music festivals. "It's these shabby chic trailers that we do," Lance explains. "People freak out about it. We started in June, and it’s insane how many franchises we have now."
Besides making for an adorable, Instagrammable moment in your backyard (or wherever you may bring it), kegs offer easier clean up and use less bottles, helping reduce waste. You can rent one, along with the accompanying photo booth, from the company's website.
Just Add X
The other big work project on Lance's horizon: Just Add X. The line of pre-made cocktail mixers is set to arrive in stores this spring, and features a host of cool mixers in flavors like lavender lemonade and strawberry basil.
"We [Lance and partner Jax Taylor of Vanderpump Rules] spent three months in a science lab like trying out all these crazy flavors. We wanted to make sure our flavors worked with every liquor so we tried everything with gin, vodka, whiskey, just soda, tequila, champagne. You name it, we tried it all, and they all taste great."
Good news—you can watch the process unfold on the next season of Vanderpump Rules!
On A Potential *NSYNC Collab
Lance isn't the only *NSYNC member involved in the food and beverage world. Joey Fatone has appeared on several Food Network programs, so naturally, I had to ask if a cooking show featuring the two of them could ever possibly happen. Fasten your seatbelts, 90s kids—Lance is fully on board with my (totally hypothetical) suggestion:
"Oh my gosh, I would love that actually. We have such different culinary skills—he loves Italian of course, he’s a really great Italian cook, his whole family is. I, of course, am from the south, so we have opposite taste buds, but I think it would be fun. It would kind of be like a little bit rock and roll and a little bit country."
Here's hoping!!!
