This is a message to all those who go shopping the Tuesday—and not the Wednesday—before Thanksgiving because they think they are sOoooOOOoo smart: You're not! And I am here to tell you why. Or rather, author Michael Ruhlman is.

According to The Daily Meal, Ruhlman walks readers through the art of shopping for food in his 2017 book Grocery: The Buying and Selling of Food in America. He also explains that Thanksgiving is a frantic holiday for a lot of people, as, you know, it requires a ton of food, food prep, and patience to get through it.

In order to try and cut through some of said stress, "everyone thinks that on Wednesday [the day before Thanksgiving] they will contend with nightmare crowds, so they all try to beat the rush by shopping Tuesday,” he writes. That is simply not the case.

Of course there'll be the requisite manic shoppers on Wednesday, those who forgot things like, IDK, a turkey or whatever. But the reality is, more people have left the bulk of their shopping to that whole week and try to tackle it all on Tuesday.

This is all to say you should get everything you need, Thanksgiving-wise, the weekend before (or even earlier, if possible). Goodness knows the most effective way to relieve anxiety is to have as minimal contact with other humans as possible, and a good early Saturday morning trip to the grocery store achieves exactly that.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
